Private Lessons

Fine Arts Enrichment Program Information

What:         Private lessons are an excellent opportunity for your child to receive the highest level of instrumental instruction available by a performer on his/her instrument.  We have procured the services of private instrument teachers on every instrument!   These instructors travel to different schools and give private instruction on their instrument.  Any student will benefit from private lessons, the student who works diligently and consistently will experience the most progress.  Material covered in lessons compliments the music being played in band, but will match the individual’s needs and talents helping top level students advance beyond the class and helping struggling students catch up to the class.

Who:           Any student wishing to excel and improve on his/her instrument is a good candidate for private lessons.  Often the students at the top of the class get the most from private lessons because they advancing at his/her own learning pace.

Instructors:           Approved by the director and screened by the district before they are allowed to teach.  This includes a criminal background check.

Where:       Lessons are taught on  campus during band class, before or after school.

When:        The exact day and time of the lesson is worked out between the student and the private enrichment instructor.  The standard practice is one ½ class period private lesson per week. (note options below).  Enrollment in lessons should be considered weekly commitment through the year.  Consistency and regularity are critical to any student’s development.  We can’t expect quality teachers to continue to come to Perry if their teaching load is inconsistent.

Options:     To encourage as many students as possible to take advantage of having a fine instrumentalist work with them on their instrument, some teachers provide the following options.

1.       One Student, ½ class period lesson, once weekly       $20/lesson

2.       2-3 students, ½ class period semi-private lesson, once weekly

                                                                                                $12 per student/lesson

(students must be compatible socially and of comparable ability)

Financial Aid:     Applications for financial assistance are available from the directors.
